It seems I might actually finish this winter quilt while it is still winter. As much as I love the look of hand quilting (even my bigger than ideal stitches), I am beginning to appreciate the efficiency of machine quilting.
I thought it would be fun to piece the back of the quilt. Why didn't anyone tell me that it is almost as much work as piecing the front?! My reason for wanting to piece the back was that I could fold the quilt with the back side out during non-winter months and it look ok. We don't have a lot of storage space around here and I love a stack of quilts as a decorative element.
I'm in the process of pinning the layers together. I thought I was just about done until I flipped the quilt-sandwich over to take a picture of the back. I seems I have some smoothing and re-pinning to do.
I won't actually get to the quilting part for a few days. I ordered some quilt clips last night and I won't be tackling the quilting until they arrive.
What color do you think the binding should be? I've had a plan from the very beginning. I've bought that color for this quilt too. But when I showed it to my husband he said it doesn't go. I think he's mistaken. ;-) So, how does a thin 1/2" red binding sound to you? (You can click on the picture for a larger version...there are red houses and some people dressed in red)
Hope everyone is having a love-filled Valentine's Day!! I've declared it "self love day" (since romantic things just aren't my husband's nature) and am celebrating by waxing legs and eyebrows with yummy lavender wax, doing my hair all pretty with hot rollers, and going in for a manicure/pedicure this evening. My first pedicure EVER! I'm excited :-D

Isn't there a little bit of red in the houses in that print? It's hard to tell. Maybe I need to see the binding next to the quilt, but I think red would work.
I am jealous. I want a manicure and pedicure. Dh bought me a small tv to watch videos on while I work out on the treadmill. Of course, I quickly translated that into thinking he thought I was fat. LOL, poor man.
Hello Dannielle,
thank you for stopping by and visiting me...Hope you had a wonderful Valentines day! I'm enjoying reading through your blog...love your pictures!
Blessings..
I think the red binding would make it really stunning. I love contrasting colors on things, it makes the other colors pop nicely.

Oh I love it. I think the red binding would look great. I am boring and almost always use my border fabric as binding LOL. I always pin quilts on a carpeted floor (you ripped up all your carpet didn't you? LOL) and then pin from the middle, I always have had success with this I think because the quilt back grips to the carpet (I don't know really, I make this stuff up!) I don't have quilt clips but I will definitely get some before I tackle a machine project again, I end up with puckers and I hate that!!!
yeah, no carpet here. I did pin from the center out. The kitchen table, apparently, isn't the best surface to use lol. But at least I get to sit in a chair while I get it figured out :-)
I had to order a free motion quilting foot yesterday as well. It occurred to me that if the quilting needed to be stitched to look like wind swirls.
Hopefully I don't ruin it!
I think red would be perfect. I love the pieced back. I have had to do that with a quilt when I couldn't be bothered buying any backing fabric and just wanted to make do with what I had. Hope the pedicure was a success. I think my feet are too ticklish for that treat.
I bought a free motion quilt foot ages ago and I never even took it out of the package... eeks, I am just so intimidated by it! swirls would look lovely!
Red binding sounds fabulous. I think it will really pop against the muted colors of the non-house blocks.
I hope you enjoyed your pampering! I love getting pedicures. The first time I got one I came home and said to my family, "Look! I got new feet!" (BTW, I think your husband is missing out. You deserve romance and candlight and roses.)
