New Projects

Some new projects have been started in the past few days. The first is a quilt. It's another group project of the local mamas who frequent the message boards at Amitymama. A woman named Patsy who we knew through the boards passed away recently. People sent in fabric squares and others volunteered to make quilts...8 total...one for each of her 7 children and one for her husband. We volunteered to make one of them.

I'm also beginning work on my birthday present, Gail Wilson's Hitty. I'm a bit paranoid starting work on her. I want her to be perfect.

I'd been coveting Hitty for a while now. You know I have a soft spot for dolls who are alive. ;-) I had to get her book to add to my little collection of books about dolls who are alive. An old copy from ebay. A new copy just didn't seem right.

And, finally, I have succumbed to the allure of the Clover Yo-yo Maker. What did me in was the fact that they make one in the size "extra small"!! Oh my gosh, it's the cutest thing ever. The finished yo-yos are just over 1/2" wide. They are totally doll sized. Irresistibly tiny!

dolls that are alive are just creepy creepy creepy (right up there wit my fear of dentists, clowns and dark water :D) but i AM super interested in the yo-yo maker!

I love how that quilt is turning out. Is that the finished top? It's hard to tell in the pics and I'm too lazy to count the squares and do the math :P. I can't wait to get started on the quilting. Then I'm doing my own!

nope, not finished. That's 4 sets of 9 pieced squares. The finished top will be 5 sets by 4 sets (so 15 squares x 12 squares)

That quilt is so nice, I love all the scrappy, bright, colors. That Hitty is intriguing. I don't know the story. Do you have the book "Big Susan" in your collection. That was one of my childhood favorites and dh got me an old copy for my 25th birthday. I really want a yo-yo maker but I can't find one locally. I don't want to pay shipping to ship a tiny plastic thing-a-mabob!! lol

Ahem! For the first time ever, I must take umbrage at another person's comment! Dolls that are alive are friends to give comfort. They are not creepy!

At the beginning of your post, I thought, "Oh another quilt...when will we see more dollies?" Then I read what the quilts are for and felt ashamed. Then I saw your Hitty and was glad! One little thing- perfect is nice and Gail Wilson is the master at kits that turn out perfect, but...one-of-a-kind is my favorite. I hope your Hitty is one-of-a-kind! BTW, I am envious of your old edition-it's super lovely! Hugs, Dear Friend!

P.S. The yo-yos are great! I love yo-yos!

Well, I'm a Hitty lover and can't wait to see how your Gail Wilson kit turns out. I own 2 Raikes Hitty dolls that are currently in storage as we try to sell our home. I miss my dolls. I love the quilt your are making. I may have missed it, but what size are the squares you are working with? And are you doing the blocks the easy way by stitching print squares onto diagonal corners of the white squares?

Lisa, that's the problem with JoAnn's free shipping club. It makes it too easy to order online since you can use their coupons and still get free shipping. Darn them lol!

I agree, Bettsi! Branwyn, you need to read The Mennyms. Then you'll be wondering if every person in big sunglasses isn't a living rag doll in disguise lol!!!

LouAnne, yes, that's exactly what I've been doing...sewing random triangles onto opposite corners of white squares. Then I trim off the extra stuff for a proper seam allowance. The white squares are 4" (so 3.5" after being sewn).

Oh, Congratulations on your HITTY! I just love her, as do an entire bunch of us over on Yahoo! She is a lovely one and I'm sure you will do a nice job. :o)

That is so very wonderful of you to make a quilt for that family! It's a beautiful quilt, too!
Love the yo-yos - I have been trying to resist getting those Clover Yo-Yo Makers. You're making it very difficult, young lady! lol!!
Good luck with your Hitty - I know you'll do a great job on her!
