Firsts

I'm about to start on a project that is a first for me. I'm delving a bit deeper into this world of quiting and am going to play with applique.

I'm not feeling nearly as confident as I usually am when trying something new. Usually I've ready a million and four books on the subject before I try something different. But this time I haven't read any books on the subject. Not one. Kinda scary.

I'm only working from a little snippet of information gleaned from this post on MiMi's blog that has been stuck in my brain ever since I first read it.

So here goes nothin'...

Also on the subject of "firsts":
It seems my homeschooled children have been deprived of the cafeteria lunch tray experience. We were at Target, checking out the summer clearance, and the kids went nutso over these trays. When were were paying, Mason even took it upon himself to explain to the cashier that these were trays just like the ones the kids who go to public school use for lunch. And then he mentioned something about "mystery meat". Silly guy!

LOL, if Mason needs mystery meat he can check out our fridge about one day before we go grocery shopping! Ewwww.

LOL . Those look like awesome retro trays! At my son's public school they don't have trays like that anymore. They have styrofoam trays that are just one section, not a bunch like that. After they are done eating they have to throw out their food and throw the styrofoam trays in the recycle bin. LOL. So tell your kids they aren't missing out on much. And YES lunch at school is yucky. LOL. Can't wait to see what applique ideas you have up your sleeve.

No way! They don't even have trays like this anymore? LOL! Shows how out of the loop I am!

I love those trays. I actually wanted them but I didn't see them on clearance when I was at Target. Shame on you lil' Mrs. Homeschool mom, depriving those kids of nutritious cafeteria food!! LOL Applique is tough IMHO, I just don't get the crisp look that I desire, my applique looks very primitive-even when I am not going for that particular style. Good luck!

Isn't it funny how something as simple as a lunch tray can be so exciting to a child. I'm going to have to check out Target to see if I can get one for my homeschooler.

I prefer applique to piece work. The thought of lining up all the seams in piece work scares me, but I enjoy doing applique. It really isn't that hard. Just use your needle to help turn under the seam allowance. You never know, you may love it.

Can't wait to see what you do with these Maurice Sendak creatures! I'm sure it's going to fantastic. I'm so jealous of your creativity!

I love applique! I find a ladder stitch works best for me. It's a little unorthodox, but it works nicely. Can't wait to see what you come up with! Your kids are darling- but then, you already knew that!
